The Calder family faced a significant decision: should they move to a new home or transform their current residence into their dream home?
They reside in a typical 4-bedroom family house, which includes a master bedroom with ensuite, three additional double bedrooms, and a family bathroom upstairs. Downstairs, the layout features a large kitchen, separate dining room, living room, utility room, cloakroom, and a large conservatory, although the conservatory didn’t require any modifications.
Ultimately, they decided to renovate. They saw the potential in their already beautiful home to become something even more special.
The goal was to create a modern, functional space that catered to their family’s needs. With two teenage daughters and a cat, the family required a design that maximised space had plenty of storage and enhanced their everyday living experience.
They chose to work with Angela from Georgie Rose Interiors Design to transform their home. We have collaborated with Angela on numerous Interior Design projects and were delighted to partner with her on this special home transformation.
Our role was to provide ideas on maximising the space, help design and remodel the rooms, and create bespoke furniture, kitchen, and storage solutions, including full installation.
Pocket Doors
Pocket Doors for Space Saving: These sliding doors seamlessly disappear into the walls, freeing up floor space and enhancing the clean, modern aesthetic.
American Walnut Chanel Handle Kitchen
The kitchen was fitted with high-end American walnut channel handle modern flat fronted doors, combining sleek design with practical functionality. Bi-fold cupboard doors on either side of the ovens and microwaves meant that everyday items left on the side could be neatly closed away but accessed easily. A wall of under-stairs storage was expanded to use the full space, which is ideal for pantry items and a large fridge/freezer. We also decided to build a wall to conceal the stairs. The kitchen island was tripled in size, with a breakfast bar added to accommodate the family’s needs. They have a Quooker hot tap, so no need for a kettle on the side either.
Key Lighting Features
Lighting can bring a kitchen to life creating ambiance and warmth as well as being functional. We incorporated under-cabinet lights, pendant lights over the island, recessed ceiling lights, and lighting features on either side of the ovens.
Guitar Wall with Built-In Fridge
Stuart, an avid guitarist, wanted a special place to display his instruments. We created a stunning guitar wall, in the dining room, capable of holding nine guitars, ensuring they are both safely stored and beautifully displayed. Additionally, we integrated a built-in fridge, combining practicality with the owner’s passion for music. Their guests often refer to the guitar wall as art.
Dining Room Cupboards and Office
We built cupboards in the dining room to conceal waste pipes from the bathroom, store all the family games, books, and paperwork, and we even included a desk that neatly folds down with a computer screen and integrated power points. All these features are hidden behind push-to-close doors, maintaining a sleek and tidy appearance in the dining room.
Reconfigured Utility and Downstairs Bathroom
We reimagined the layout of the utility room and downstairs cloakroom to better suit the family’s needs. We moved the toilet, to ensure there was a window. We created a much more efficient and user-friendly layout by adding a separate entrance to the downstairs toilet and expanding the utility space. We designed made and installed the cupboards and units.
Living Room Media Centre
In the living room, we built a custom media centre to house the Stovax fireplace, TV, DVDs, CDs, and various household items that the owners didn’t want on display. This media centre includes integrated lighting and cable management, ensuring a clean, clutter-free aesthetic. The result is a beautiful, organised living room.
Conservatory Table for Amp Storage
In the conservatory, we added finishing touches like a custom table to store the owner’s amp, seamlessly integrating it into the space while keeping it accessible for use.
Usable Cupboard / Wardrobe
We turned a previously unused space above the stairs into a practical cupboard/wardrobe for one of the daughters. This provided much-needed storage space and added functionality to an otherwise overlooked area.
The master bedroom
All the old furniture was removed and a wall of bespoke fitted wardrobe was installed. With lighting, shelves, drawers and hanging space all designed specifically for individual use.
The transformation of the Calder’s family’s home exceeded their expectations. The result is a modern, functional space that beautifully balances style and practicality. The key features, such as the space-saving pocket doors, the slick Chanel handle cabinetry, and the expanded kitchen island, contribute to a “wow” factor that impresses everyone who enters the kitchen.
The guitar wall with a built-in fridge is a unique addition that reflects the owner’s love for music, making the dining room not just a place for eating and entertaining, but also a personal sanctuary for enjoying his favourite pastime.
The reconfigured utility room and downstairs bathroom now provide a much better layout for the family, enhancing the overall functionality and comfort of their home.
The usable cupboard above the stairs, the living room media centre, the hidden dining room cupboards and desk, and the conservatory table for amp storage all contribute to a well-organised and aesthetically pleasing home environment.
The Calder family is delighted with their newly renovated home. Each room stands out as a testament to thoughtful design and meticulous execution. Their dream home is now a reality, perfectly suited for their long-term enjoyment.
